Mula मूल

Mula opens the sign of Sagittarius, from 0° to 13°20′. Its name literally means "the root," and its symbol is a tied bunch of roots. This is the nakshatra of getting to the bottom of things: digging past the surface to the very foundation, even when that means tearing up what was planted to find the truth beneath.

Its deity is Nirriti, the goddess of dissolution and necessary destruction — the force that clears away the old so that something more true can grow. Mula carries this uprooting power: it can be disruptive and intense, but its upheavals serve a purpose, exposing what is real.

The planetary ruler is Ketu, the south node, which deepens Mula’s spiritual, investigative, and detached character — a pull toward the philosophical, the hidden, and the absolute. Mula belongs to the Rakshasa gana, lending it intensity, directness, and a willingness to break with convention.
